About Jackie Glass
Education & Career
I graduated from Journalism at Durham College followed by an Arts Program at Trent University and earned by Diploma in Interior Decorating at George Brown College. I’ve been working in the design industry for 23 years.
Favourite room to decorate
The family room is my favourite room to decorate. It’s where families live and entertain so it has to be comfortable, practical and inviting. We typically design built-ins and furnish with comfortable and highly durable furniture. I really enjoy styling the shelves and adding accessories to give the space a personal touch for our clients.
Favourite room in your house
I love the small, multi-purpose room off my kitchen. I’ve given the space a lounge look positioning four large William Birch armchairs around a tufted round ottoman. My two dogs enjoy lounging on the chairs while I cook! My black baby grand piano sits at the end of the room for my musically gifted family members and friends.
Vicente Wolf is my favourite designer. He inspires me to mix things up. His incredible pairings and layering of furniture styles is impeccable and like me, he also adores designing with white.
Your personal style
My style is a timeless style that’s defined by neutral colours and natural elements. Like the little black dress, this style can be dress up or play down and always looks modern.
Most challenging project
Although I’m finding it challenging, I’m having fun planning how I’m going to design my next home. As empty nesters, my husband and I will soon be downsizing to a smaller home. The challenge is how to create a more modern aesthetic without having to part with furnishings we love.
Go-to, no-fail colour scheme
I love a neutral palette. I adore designing with multiple shades of white. I especially enjoy mixing cool and warm whites together and adding pops of color with accessories and artwork.
Best design advice received or shared
To respect the client. They are the ones who are living in the space, so listen carefully to their wishes and give them a home they can be most proud of.
Favourite way to relax and wind down
I relax at the end of a long day with a perfectly chilled glass of Italian Pinot Grigio…or two… while preparing a new recipe in my sunny kitchen with family and doggies!
