6 Secrets for a Home Renovation Project

Whenever you are about to embark on a renovation either big or small, it is important to make sure you have all the details of the project from start to finish.

Of course, there may be changes you did not expect but going into a project requires education and always, my adage is “knowledge is power”.

Here are my 6 tips on surviving and ultimately enjoying your new space!

1. Prepare by diving deep into what you want. This could mean creating a file of inspiration photos, a Pinterest board, whatever—just decide what you want it to look like. Dream big—budget realties come later.

2. Find the right contractor—seems easy but it is important to establish a rapport with the team who will be working in your space. Trust your instinct.

3. Always get more than one quote. You can then compare each breakdown to determine the best fit for you.

4. Make sure you understand what “extras” are. Your initial contract does not include those extra plugs or new trim work so expect to get a bill outside of that or ask what the costs are as they happen so you can manage your budget.

5. Be patient. Delays can happen and product can arrive late, damaged or not at all. If you work with a designer, know that their job is to ensure that they can help this process go smoothly.

6. Remember that while initially you are living in a mess, it will be completed so keep your eye on the prize!
