Entrance Essential

As the weather starts to change, we naturally turn indoors and while I am sorry to see the summer season slip away, I am always energized with thoughts of cooler temperatures and fall colors in decor!

I thought it would be a good time to provide some basic guidelines when decorating your front hall.

Since the front hall is the first impression friends and family have of your home, what better time than a changing season to well, change it up!

Here are my 5 "must haves" in ensuring your hall looks stylish and functional!

#1. Storage

If you have the room, a console table or cabinet is essential. It provides a surface not only for the decorative items like flowers but also serves to hold keys and other necessary daily items. Having a cabinet also offers storage for extra shoes, mittens and scarves. You can even use a shelf that folds down if space is at premium.

#2. Mirror

You must have a mirror somewhere in an entry way. Who doesn't want to take a last minute check on hair, make-up, hat or scarf when dashing out the door?

#3. On the Floor

Consider a washable rug in a front hall. It adds protection for your floors during inclement weather but also adds a focal point to your space. There are so many different styles, prices, patterns and sizes to choose from.

#4. Seating

So important, and often overlooked, a bench, stool or chair is a must. Stools can be stored under a table when not in use and come in many different sizes and shapes. Your family and friends will thank you.

#5. Styling

Mixing flowers, books and sculptural collectibles help to set your design vibe. I love changing flowers for each season and regularly mix up my accessories and art here.
