Do you see a colored kitchen in your future?

I believe 2026 is going to change how we think about kitchen cabinetry. We’re loosening up, breaking a few rules, and—most importantly—having some fun with color.

That spirit came to life in this recent project for a client who wanted a kitchen that felt both classic and colorful. We began the redesign with a deep blue cabinet color as our anchor, setting the tone for a space that feels timeless yet expressive.

What made this project especially unique was our client herself. She’s a professional baker, accustomed to creating masterpieces in a professionally styled kitchen. The challenge? Her existing kitchen was a small, condominium galley layout—meaning every inch had to work hard, and creativity was essential.

Storage and generous work surfaces for rolling pastry were critical requirements. So, we got inventive and introduced several custom solutions:

#1. A Flexible, Moving Tabletop

This pull-out surface sits on wheels, providing extra counter space exactly when it’s needed. When in use, it hydraulically lowers to rest on the floor, ensuring complete stability while rolling pastry. When not in use, it slides seamlessly back into the cabinetry, flush and almost invisible. Discreet pop-out pulls allow for a clean, hardware-free look while still offering a secure grip.

#2. A Repurposed Closet-Turned-Pantry

What was once proposed as a bathroom space became a highly functional baking pantry. Designed to store both large and small baking essentials, it also houses an upright freezer and rolling cooling racks—everything a serious baker needs within easy reach.

#3. A Hardworking yet Elegant Countertop

Furniture is becoming art. Curved sofas, fluted cabinetry, sculptural lighting, and organic forms add drama and individuality to even the simplest rooms. Fluted details, inspired by Art Deco, remain especially popular—they give character without overwhelming a space.

The result is a kitchen that proves color can be both sophisticated and playful—and that even the smallest spaces can be transformed into highly functional, inspiring places to create.
