Must Have Cookbooks

I like to cook. I wouldn't say I am a natural cook and can just whip things up since I tend to rely on recipes. But I do have a pretty good idea of how things should taste or be enhanced.

I realized I always have some favourite recipes and cookbooks on rotation in my kitchen. And don't you enjoy it when your family asks for certain recipes. Sometimes it is hard not to claim them as my own since I know them by heart.

Everyday Fresh-meals in Minutes

I have always loved Donna Hay and if you have not heard of this Australian cook, you need to. Huge success rate with my family when I use her recipes. The visuals are gorgeous and the recipes are simple but delicious. Her latest book, Too Easy is gorgeous and speaks to her simple motto of good food, no fuss. Check out her Instagram. I am mesmerized by her luscious desserts and gorgeous presentations.

Dinner Tonight

This is an oldie but a goodie. I happen to have the privilege of knowing Lucy as she and I were often on Cityline together and we would chat in between sessions on the show. I have turned to this book again and again when my son was growing up and again, great success rate with the family.

What I really love and wish all cooks or chefs would do is offer substitutions for different condiments and also offer serving ideas. Serve with potatoes or a green salad etc. is really helpful to me. And Lucy always does that. I have many of her books and love the ones that pair wine with her food. Now that's fun!

Eating Out Loud

Eden is blowing up right now with her second cookbook, Tahini Baby and I am so happy for her. But I was first aware of her talents because of Eating Out Loud. Her recipes in this book are easy and delicious. She details what you need in your pantry so making these dishes is really simplified. I make her pickled, herby and charred peppers regularly because they are so fabulous!

Yes, I do have Tahini Baby and already have some favourites. But check out her Instagram because her sense of fun and goofy behaviour makes you laugh and want to try the recipe!
