Refresh Your Home for Spring

We can feel it in the air and after such a snowy winter, how wonderful to see some early spring flowers popping their heads out of the ground! I have always loved spring and like my mother, I thoroughly enjoy opening windows and refreshing my home.

I love to start in my front entrance way because it is the first impression friends and family have of your home. Moving furniture around and replacing heavier accessories with glass vases filled with foraged branches or flowers is the quickest way to say welcome!

Here are some easy ways to bring spring into your space:

Remove Area Rugs

Have them washed or dry cleaned and put away until the colder season. Some of my rugs are washable (thank you, Ruggables), while the others are wool and silk, so I do need them professionally treated but it is like seeing an old friend when I take them out later in the year.

Wash Your Windows

My mother was an expert in spring cleaning. I would return home from school and my bedroom would be completely changed around. My curtains would be freshly washed, walls wiped down and the windows would sparkle. To this day, I use her method of taking a bucket of hot water, add a few tablespoons of vinegar and then use a chamois or Mr. Siga cloth for streak free results.

If your windows are too big a challenge to tackle by yourself, hire a professional or recruit a friend. But nothing says spring better than sparkling sunshine on freshly washed glass.

Change Out Your Bed Linens

I have always loved a nice sateen sheet set and a good down-filled duvet. So cosy and warm on cold winter nights! But once the weather warms up, I love to switch to crisper cotton sheet sets and a lighter weight coverlet to keep me comfortable at night.

There are so many great price points and patterns available but I always find myself drawn to crisp small floral patterns at this time of the year. It just makes your bed so appealing and fresh! Add a bowl of fresh flowers and you know spring has arrived with the delight of summer ahead!

Switch Your Wardrobe to Spring!

I find it so therapeutic to review my wardrobe when the seasons change. This allows me to do a thorough inventory of items I may want to re-purpose and also organizes my stacks of clothes in a fresh new way.

Shoe caddies and drawer boxes are so helpful in maintaining order because let's face it, we never have enough space!
