3 Timeless Essentials to have in your Closet

We all have favourite pieces of clothing that we have on repeat in our closet. We may wear them out but we end up buying them again because they always work. You can throw them on, add some accessory items and you are good to go.

Here are 3 classics that never go out of style.

#1. Cable Knit Sweaters

I have had many iterations of this in my wardrobe over the years. A cream-colored cable knit sweater is a staple whether it be a chunky turtleneck or a cardigan. You can pair it with jeans or a dressier pant or skirt and it always sends off a cozy vibe.

I enjoy the ritual of switching seasons particularly in the fall and my cable knit sweater is the first one I place on the shelf imagining falling leaves and hot chocolate!

#2. Denim Shirt

We all know the Canadian tuxedo look and I admit I have tried it myself and liked the look. But a good denim shirt is something everyone should always have in their closet. It can be dressed up or down but like a good pair of jeans, what color does it not look good with?

The sleeves can be rolled up, the shirt can be left tucked or untucked and the collar can be up or down. Done and done.

#3. Essential Loafers

So, this essential can be for women and for men. The loafer is a staple and if you can, you should have them in both black and brown.

The loafer is such a classic. I wear mine with socks or without as does my husband. I can wear it with skirts, shorts, dresses, jeans and dress pants. I especially love the chunkier style so in fashion right now. These are great for every season and despite it being March, I have been wearing mine outside already.

Items I Think are Just Chic…

Lately, I have been noticing some things that are really chic in the beauty world. Some are really old school and remind me of a great classic movie like Breakfast at Tiffanys. But these items can easily be used today because they are not only beautiful but useful!

Sleeping Mask

If you have ever travelled on a long flight, chances are you will have gotten an eye mask to ease the duration of the trip. An elevated eye mask is made of soft satin in a myriad of colors and really does block out the light with great comfort. My husband swears by them. They are also great if you need complete darkness for a good night’s rest or have a headache.

Lipstick Cases

I noticed this when shopping for a lipstick and found that the beautiful brand of Guerlain was offering a selection of cases to go with their bespoke lipstick collection. Whether you like a demurer neutral case or an animal print-the small mirror and ease of the case is perfect! I selected a marble pattern as a homage to all the marble I use as a designer and I feel very special applying my lipstick when I am out and about.

Oversizes Scarves

We have been using oversized scarves this season, which are perfect for the windy cold weather but smaller silk scarves in classic prints are being seen more and more.

I first noticed a gorgeous silk number on the shoulder of a woman wearing a trench coat. Then I saw smaller silk scarves tied at the neck with a simple white blouse. So chic and so easy to do. Expect to see this even more as we enter into the spring season.

Watches

I still wear a watch everyday for work. Even though I use my phone to check the time, I do depend on my wrist watch and feel it finishes off my day look.

Leather straps with a roman numeral face are really popular, so classic and my go-to. Whether it be a Cartier or a less expensive timepiece, the look is definitely chic and ahem, timeless!
